The 2001 release of Grand Theft Auto 3 was an inarguable turning point in the history of video games, and now that it's been a full two decades (and the impact of GTA's open world design philosophy has seemingly seeped into every corner of gaming) there would be no better way to celebrate than by remastering GTA 3 once again for the current generation of video game consoles, specifically the PS5.Īlthough Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas would go on to add many of the features which are now considered staples of the GTA series, like property management and cellular telephones, it was during the development of Grand Theft Auto 3 that the mechanics of how these functions could truly world in a 3D space originated.
